LAKHIMPUR: During the new wave of the pandemic, the COVID-19 cases are on the rise in Lakhimpur district. On Tuesday, a total of 36 fresh COVID-19 cases were detected in the district. They tested positive as per Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) conducted by the District Health Department at different places across the district.
Among them, Lakhimpur MLA Manab Deka tested positive for COVID-19. At present, he has been put to home isolation.
Active COVID-19 cases rose from nil to 1,370 in the State within the second half of the month of June. The latest wave in the State started with a spike in Guwahati city. Then the spurt spread to Kamrup, Darrang, Dibrugarh districts in particular and then to other districts of the State. The positivity rate in the State is rising every day and it is already more than the national rate as per report.
In Lakhimpur district during the new wave, the fresh COVID-19 cases were at first detected on July 7. On that day, 7 people were found positive for the coronavirus infection. Since then, a total of 90 COVID-19 cases have been detected in the district till date.
However, no COVID Care Centres (CCCs) have been opened in the district despite the positivity rate is on the rise. COVID Care Centre is designated only at Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital (LMCH) wherein there is only one COVID patient at present.
"The COVID situation in the district is being closely monitored by the District Health Department as per instruction of the State Government and Health and Family Welfare Department. All necessary measures would be taken at the appropriate time to tackle the situation," said Geetali Duworah, the Additional Deputy Commissioner (Health) of Lakhimpur in this regard.
